Sybil Pye (1879–1958)

Sybil Pye was one of the best known and most highly regarded bookbinders of her era, and one of the few in England who specialized in inlaid leather bindings. Self-taught, she used simple shapes and minimal colour palettes to create her striking and highly collectible Art Deco style bindings. Pye created more than 150 bindings, working originally in white or natural pig skin, and later in goatskin.
