Treasures of the Bodleian

These are two of several examples of unofficial souvenirs printed by Mrs S Burgess, commemorating key protests and rallies from the campaign for women’s right to vote. The floral borders and portraits of the movement’s leaders, printed on a delicate Japanese paper, were noted – with the implication that they were somewhat frivolously feminine – in Votes for Women, the journal of the Women’s Social and Political Union.
