Treasures of the Bodleian

This battered volume is inscribed ‘Taken by me from the Redan on the morning of the 9th of Sepr 1855. Fredk J. Holt Beever MA, Fellow of Jesus Coll: Oxford’. It was presumably being read by one of the defenders during the siege of Sebastopol in the Crimean War. The Revd Holt Beever presented it to the Bodleian in 1856.
