For me Franz Kafka is one of the best and influential writers of the 20th Century. My mother language is German and in school I was fascinated by Kafka’s literary style which is deeply rooted in the German language. Judgements at the time seeing Kafka’s stories and novels simply as pessimistic and gloomy I always found very superficial and shrugged it off easily. For a long time now we know there is more to it and it is for a reason that the terminus “kafkaesque” is in our vocabulary. I’m proud of Franz Kafka being a world known German - language novelist.
